Oh my English 2.. (Silent Letters)

This is what I can benefit from my BBW aftermath sale.. I bought a book entitle 'Everyday English'.. Here is one of the content that caught my attention..

This is da cover..
Page 138-140..Ssh! Silent letters.. There are some letters in English words that you should not pronounce.. That is what we called as silent letters. The letters of course exist in its written/spelling form, however not in terms of the pronunciation per se (Latin phrase meaning "in itself"). As a rule, kalau rase agak susah untuk menyebut setiap konsonan bila ianya digabungkan dalam satu perkataan , means 2 konsonan sebelah2 dalam satu perkataan, maka salah satunya haruslah tidak dibunyikan (tapi macam biase la, sometimes the rules ada exception ye.. :)

Saya sebagai rakyat Malaysia yang sokmo menggunakan bahasa melayu sebagai bahasa perantaraan (kadang2 bahasa perak pure yang keluar), yes, it will be a bit difficult sebab dalam bahasa melayu kita takde perkataan yang melibatkan konsonan bertemu konsonan sebelah2..(Fortunately I'm learning this thing, so I have to know this..) selalunya hanya ada konsonan + vokal + konsonan and etc.. Contohnya Psikologi..

So here I'll guide you how to get a perfect pronunciation k.. InsyaAllah..

Wowowowow!!

Wowowowowowo!!Lamenye tak berblog.. Tak sempat.. Huhu.. Rindu tak? Rindu tak? (En.asben yang dok cakap lamenye orang tu tak update blog..) Haha..

I'll be in my third semester on this coming Monday (18.02.13).. Huhu.. That means I have to come up with a research project. This is what makes me work a little bit harder and not visiting my blog for a very longgggggggg time.. Hehe.. Still working on it though..

On 30.01.13 (Wednesday), I went to look for my supervisor-to-be.. I went to see Dr. S******h as she was assigned to be my advisor according to my offer letter. Unfortunately, she doesn't want to fill up any form nor agreeing to my request on-the-spot.. Huhu.. She wants me to convey her with my topic choice.. My chosen topic at that time was on British English and American English in Malaysia.. Her question then "so what?" Huhu.. Betul jugak soalan beliau tu.. (But that was a so 'cold' reply..) *menangis dalam hati teresak-esak*.

Credit to Google..
So what kalo Malaysian ni guna British or American English. Masalahnye, I went to see her tu, nak discuss what should I do. What are the things I need to look up.. Huhu.. At the end of the meeting, she gave me a week to come up with a proper topic. Owh, walaupun Dr. sedikit mean terhadap saya di awal pertemuan, beliau tetap memberi beberapa cadangan dan tunjuk ajar yang amat berguna (Melayu abes kan ayat ni? Haha..). Trimas Dr. *terharu sikit*.

So next weeknye 06.02.13 (Wednesday). I went to see her again. But this time, I came fully prepared.. Al maklumla, seminggu masa diberikan. (sebenarnye tak fully utilised utilized the whole week pun, amek 2 or 3 hari je untuk google and membace journal. Haha.. I'm on holiday mood kot.. Kene wat research plak..) Haha.. sepatutnye I berusaha bersungguh2 kan.. This is for my future kot.. Tapi, tapi, tapi.. sifat malas sangat tebal. Lebih tebal dari my wallet.. **utilised-BrE, utilized-AmE, be consistent bile gune English ni ye.(including me of coz)**

I went there with this topic, "The attitudes towards British English and American English among students and lecturers in Private Higher Education Institute." Unfortunately for me, it was rejected, again.. Muahahahaha.. *giler sekejap* Why it is rejected? It has been done by others and especially it is done by one of her supervised student.. *insert loud cry here (tapi dalam hati jek)* Common sangat dah topic tu..Ok, I tak putus asa.

Dalam fikiran I, I need to take this subject (research project) in next semester by hook or by crook. Sebab subject ni 6 credit hours and we have to complete it in 2 consecutive semesters.. So kalo ikutkan perkiraan I, I nak abeskan dalam 2 tahun jek. Tak nak lebih2. Sian En.asben dok menanggung I. Setahun (2 sem) dah pun berlalu.. Tinggal sem depan and 1 more sem to come.. So kena gak dapatkan supervisor and topic bersesuaian walaupun terpaksa hadapi pelbagai rintangan hokey..

Thank you Mr. Google..
Owh, sambung perbincangan dengan Dr. S.. Dia akhir pertemuan tu, I dengan tanpa segan silu bertanya "Err..Dr, do you have any suggestion on the topic that i should do for my research project?" Dr. pun reply "What are you interested in? I don't want to give you any random topic that you are not interested in coz i don't want you to feel burden with a given topic.. Or else, you will blame me (dengan gaya mengajuk, beliau berkate "haa..tula, Dr. yang bagi saya topik ni") Huh? My reply "No, no Dr. I won't do that (dalam hati, mintak2 la I takkan berkata begitu di masa hadapan. Hahaha..) I just need some suggestions..

Bole tak, I sendiri tak dapat decide what am I interested in. I nak cakap I'm interested in teaching and learning, tapi nape tak cakap ntah.. Rasa macam topic tu agak lame and dah banyak ngat research on that agaknya.. Lastly, Dr. S pun decide on "metaphors".. Amek kau.. Topic yang zaman degree. Ingat-ingat lupe. Yang I ingat, metaphors sangat banyak digunakan dalam literature. Tapi, Applied Linguistics has nothing to do with literature. So metaphors yang I kena wat ni adalah related to language. Basically, semantics.. Semantics has to do with meaning ye dear readers.. So a week lagi diberi untuk mencari topic yang bagus..

A simple explanation from Google
13.02.13 (Wednesday), its today!! Haha.. Tapi.. I bole plak sibuk hapdate blog? Haha.. Sebenarnye Dr. S bercuti, jadi I tak dapat nak jumpa dia today. Tapi I dah call dia and discuss a bit bout my topic. I want to do something on "The effects of metaphors on attitudes toward the advertisement and the brand". Dr. S cakap, that is interesting..*my hati is lighten up a bit, a bit jela* I told her that I want to do the research based on the advertisement in TIME magazine (memandangkan I memang subscribe TIME mag..). Tapi Dr. S telah memberi cadangan untuk menggunakan magazines berkaitan ngan cosmetics coz that would be easier.. As in a trance, I agreed je atas semua cadangan beliau.. Yela, takkan nak argue plak.. Obey jek..

At last of our conversation, Dr. S ask me to come and see her tomorrow. To further discuss la.. Hurmm, bear in mind ye readers, di kala entry ini ditulis, masih belum ada persetujuan supervisor antara Dr. S and me.. I really hope yang Dr. S akan terima my topic thus menerima permintaan I untuk di supervised oleh beliau.. Tolong doakan ye.. Huhu.. By the way, gaya penceritaan di atas telah membuatkan Dr. S nampak seolah2 agak kejam. Haha.. Namun hakikatnya, beliau tak la sekejam mane pun. Beliau adalah seorang yang sangat baik and comel.. I chose her pun because she's an expert in her field ok. Sangat expert. Dia dah pun produced ramai students yang cemerlang kat UPM ni. Yela, semua tindakan yang beliau buat tu adalah untuk memudahkan segala2nye and supaya takde masalah yang timbul di masa hadapan.. Love you la Dr. S (bukan nak kipas k, ikhlas. Bukannya Dr. S baca pun my blog ni, nak kipas2. Hehe..)

Ok la..terpanjang plak entry kali ni. Nak pegi google something on metaphors and cosmetics advertisement plak. Esok dah ade appointment ngan Dr. S. Kene fully prepared.. Doakan I akan dapat tangkap beliau untuk dijadikan supervisor k..
